Hot Chip Special Delivery for Monzo

How Wurlin Created a 6ft ‘Hot Chip’

We do love a challenge here at Wurlin Workshop and this one was a BIG one!

Read on if you want to follow the journey of the Monzo Bank Giant Plushie…

Monzo’s lil mascot is ‘Hot Chip’ and comes in the form of stickers, keyrings etc (all of which we make fyi!) and also a small cuddly, cute plush toy which is part of their new employees promotional pack.

Monzo wanted to create two 6ft versions of Hot Chip which needed to replicate the cuddly, cute, quality of the little versions but needed to be self supporting. They would then need to be shipped to their Cardiff and London HQs to celebrate Monzo’s forthcoming 9th Birthday celebrations.

First up we needed to manufacture the plush fabric outer to match the smaller version scaled up to 6ft. The fabric was identical, the facial features the same and even the limbs.

The outer fabric was shipped from the Far East and once in the UK we had to solve the problem of how to fill the skin!

We worked with a furniture upholsterer in Taunton who filled the internal structure with mattress foam. After some tweaks, adjustments and extra padding the two plushies were built and ready to be dispatched.

The next problem was the logistics of getting them to their final destination. Well, these VIPs travelled in style and were driven by private hire to be handed over to their new homes, one to Cardiff and the other to London.

This was a totally unique project and something we have not tackled before, but we dug deep to use all our expertise and problem-solving skills. We are immensely proud of the end result and successfully delivering on all aspects of this challenging project. As our strap line says: Imagine It. Made.

And yes lil Hot Chip is just as cute and cuddly at 6ft tall!
